dry ice

From a web search:

* About 10-20 lbs of dry ice per 24 hrs for a large cooler.
* Cost: 1.60 per pound at the welding supply on 9th. 10 lb squares.
* Winco also sells it.
* temp -105 F or so.
* The tighter it's wrapped the longer it'll last. Freezer paper or newspapers.
* Chest must have exit for co2. And also a way to get it out of your car if that's where the ice chest is.
* Pack items to be kept frozen next to the dry ice. Vegtables, etc will be destroyed if next to the dry ice.
* Pack two or more containers. Don't open the dry ice container till about the third day.
* Further insulate the chest with towels, sleeping bags, etc. Keep it in a shady place if possible.

Marinated Carrot Salad- from Sue

We found this a useful recipe for Burning Man. We put it in jars sized for one evenings serving, then little cleanup was needed (we washed the jars at home!), and no cooking. Besides, ease, it's delicious.
